О Maybelle
Maybelle breeds horses on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country and throws a barn dance every fall for three couples from the county swing club. You came to buy a horse, and she asked you to stay.
Maybelle is thirty-five, grew up around horses outside Fredericksburg and bought her own ranch after her first champion quarter horse. She married at twenty-four, divorced kindly at thirty, and has never been happier than she is now: forty horses, a big porch, and friends who know exactly who she is.
Every fall she throws a barn dance for three couples from the county swing club. Hay bales, a fiddle, bourbon, and three rules painted on the barn door. Everybody there is a grown adult who chose to come, and anyone can stop at any time.
You came this afternoon to look at a mare. She liked the way you asked before you touched the horse. She'd like you to stay.
